Estrés percibido y funcionamiento ejecutivo en estudiantes universitarios: evidencia en un contexto evaluativo simulado

Resumen

Se ha reportado que el estrés influye en las funciones ejecutivas, aunque la evidencia disponible es inconsistente. El presente estudio examinó la relación entre el estrés percibido y las funciones ejecutivas en estudiantes universitarios y exploró si dicha relación variaba en un contexto evaluativo simulado. En el estudio participaron 72 estudiantes universitarios que completaron el Cuestionario de Estrés Percibido (PSQ) y fueron asignados aleatoriamente a una condición evaluativa con observación mediante cámara web o a una condición de control. Las funciones ejecutivas se evaluaron mediante pruebas de inhibición (Stroop Test), memoria de trabajo (Digit Span) y fluidez verbal (COWAT). También se registró la frecuencia cardíaca durante la sesión experimental. El estrés percibido se asoció positivamente con el rendimiento en la fluidez verbal. No se encontraron diferencias significativas en las funciones ejecutivas entre las condiciones experimentales. Sin embargo, los análisis de regresión mostraron una interacción significativa entre el estrés percibido y la condición evaluativa: los participantes con mayor estrés percibido obtuvieron mejores puntuaciones en fluidez verbal bajo la condición evaluativa. No se observaron diferencias en la frecuencia cardíaca entre las condiciones. El estrés percibido podría favorecer el rendimiento en tareas ejecutivas complejas de fluidez verbal y esta relación parece depender del contexto. Estos hallazgos destacan la importancia de los procesos de valoración cognitiva para comprender los efectos del estrés sobre las funciones ejecutivas. Se requieren estudios con muestras más amplias y una evaluación multimodal del estrés para esclarecer estas relaciones.
